 Six years after Yahoo purchased Tumblr for north of $1 billion, its parent corporation is selling the once-dominant blogging platform. WordPress owner Automattic Inc. has agreed to take the service off of Verizon’s hands. Terms of the deal are undisclosed, but the number is “nominal,” compared to its original asking price, per an article in The Wall Street Journal.
Axios is reporting that the asking price for the platform is “well below $20 million,” a fraction of a fraction of its 2013 price tag.
Once the hottest game in town, the intervening half-decade has been tough on Tumblr, as sites like Facebook, Instagram, Reddit and the like have since left the platform in the dust. More recently, a decision to ban porn from the platform has had a marked negative impact on the service’s traffic. According to Sensor Tower, first-time users for Tumblr’s mobile app declined 33% year-over-year last quarter. [MORE] |

 Metronomy have released a new remix package ahead of their forthcoming 'Metronomy Forever' album release on September 13.
Running Back head honcho Gerd Janson and long-time collaborator Shan, as well as Madrid-based producer Bawrut, have remixed album cut 'Lately', while 'Salted Caramel Ice Cream' has been taken on by Tel Aviv stalwart Moscoman and audio-visual artist Anna Lann.

 A Crown Heights block was named the greenest in Brooklyn for the 25th iteration of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s annual contest, which aims to promote streetscape planting and neighbor connectivity.
Every year, neighbors throughout the borough come together to plant and make their blocks greener. Judges, including professional horticulturists from BBG, select the winners based on vibrant use of color, resident involvement, plant sustainability, street tree bed care, and soil and mulch maintenance, among other criteria.
There are several categories including greenest residential and commercial blocks, greenest storefront, best street tree beds, best community garden streetscape, and best window box.
In Crown Heights, a group called Preserving Lincoln’s Abundant Natural Treasures (PLANTs) won in the residential category for their work on Lincoln Place between Nostrand and New York avenues. In our recent feature where Kraviz and Parris Mitchell interview each other, the former lauded the importance of labels such as Dance Mania, the Chicago imprint at the forefront of ghetto-house.
In response to Mitchell asking for her opinion on up-and-coming DJ’s and producers’ approach to ghetto-house, Kraviz said she wished "people knew more about Dance Mania", because it might mean music "would sound less polished."
